Six Dimensions of Wellness
Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute, created an interdependent model titled The Six Dimensions of Wellness. assess your level of wellness in each dimension.
Definition of Wellness
There are many wellness models with different views on what it encompasses. The consensus of wellness visionaries depicts the following core elements:
- Wellness is a conscious, self-directed, and evolving process of achieving full potential;
- Wellness is multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment;
- Wellness is positive and affirming
Synergy
Optimal wellness begins with a positive attitude. Evidence suggests a correlation between one’s thoughts and emotions with one’s level of health and quality of life. The terrain from the trailhead to your summit of optimal wellness will likely provide difficult, innumerable, and invaluable lessons.
Psychologist Abraham Maslow introduced the concept of self-actualization and nurtured it to one of the quintessential theories of human behavior. A key element of human potential is the whole-person approach to human behavior.
Synergy with our vital life force [chi] will transcend our movement to optimal wellness and self-actualization. The following represents the five-step pyramid of human needs developed by Maslow. Each level of needs must be satisfied in order to cultivate optimal wellness.
Fear-Based Illusions
The mind-body interface became the equation in which humans manifested improved quality of life through lifestyle changes. The spirit to cultivate your true potential is within each of us but you have the courage to fetch it. This essential element of our lives is often suppressed by habit jammed with excuses.
Real growth occurs when you assertively take risks to learn your Noble Truth. Consciously seeking to slay your fears and harvest your needs requires balance, equanimity, and fearlessly venturing into the unknown in each dimension of your life.
“One wanders to the left, another to the right.
Both are equally in error, but, are seduced by different delusions.”
~ Horace
Sir Isaac Newton nailed it when he touted any action has an equal and opposite reaction. The Law of Polarity states everything that exists has an equal and exact opposite. The Law of Duality states everything on a continuum has a complementary opposite within the whole. In essence, varying degrees of the same thing.
To thrive on the wellness continuum mandates an integrative approach to the whole person. In order to change, adapt, and grow it becomes vital to understand the consequences of our decisions, behaviors, and habits. It means defining what we truly desire from life and the root of our inspiration.
